Martisor is the Romanian festival of paying tribute to spring. Martisor literally signifies the month of March. This is a unique tradition of the Romanians where the locals celebrate the month of March by offering gifts having a symbolic touch in every case. The gift is actually thread-made and the threads considered for weaving the gift are mostly of two shades, red and white. These small offerings are given to girls as well as women on 1st of March. The custom which is also common in Bulgaria and other European lands usually denotes Little March.
